Artificial intelligence and creation: issues and practices
"Following the third industrial revolution triggered by the rise of the Internet, numerous observers describe artificial intelligence (AI) as a fourth revolution, with the potential to overturn the world order, and the way we create, perceive, distribute and enjoy cultural products and goods. In the field of culture, its concrete impact is expected to be even more apparent in urban centres, given that majority of cultural and creative venues, activities, jobs and industries." Ernesto Ottone R.
Initiated during the 2025 Annual Conference of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, which was held under the theme “Culture and Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the Future of UNESCO Creative Cities”, this publication explores the impacts of artificial intelligence in creative domains, such as literature.
Can AI be seen merely as a tool, or as a true co-creator? To what extent does the use of AI in literature affect the authenticity of artistic expression? Could the use of AI in artistic creation lead to a standardisation of works? What are the ethical implications of using AI in artistic production? How can we ensure that works created with AI remain truly innovative and do not fall into algorithmic repetition? How do you imagine the future of AI in your field?
The various stakeholders from creative disciplines representing the member cities of the RVCU offer avenues for reflection on these important issues. Among them, René Audet, Professor of contemporary literature and digital culture, at Université Laval, Québec City.
